2021 wasn't easy for many of us so you're probably ready for a fresh start. A new year is the absolute perfect time to reflect on, learn, and change old habits. Start 2022 off with the new & improved natural skincare routine you so deserve. Let's raise our glass to glowing skin!

1. Review your skin care routine

It's easy to use the same skin care routine with the same products over and over. Now is a great time to step back and review. Decide which steps are necessary and identify any you need to leave behind in the new year. If you're not sure about when to use what product, make sure to read our blog The Correct Sequence for Using Your Natural Skin Care Products.

2. Identify your skin type

While all skin is different and will react differently to products, there are four main skin types that are generally agreed upon in the skincare community: normal, oily, dry, and combination.

Do you know which one is your skin type? Before you buy your next skincare product it's crucial that you know. It's the first step for a proper skin care routine. If you're using products that aren't designed to help your skin type and condition it will result in more frustration and problematic conditions. Don't want that right?

3. Know the ingredients you need to meet your skincare concerns

Now that you know what skin type you are, it's time to figure out which ingredients you need to incorporate into your routine.

Don't get fooled by expensive packaging or misleading promises. At Pure Fiji we take pride in ensuring that we are providing our worldwide customer base with the safest and most natural ingredients. Knowing this about Pure Fiji saves you time and money, while reducing breakouts and fine lines at the same time.

4. Yes, we said it again, start using SPF every single day

Harmful UVA and UVB rays wreak havoc on our delicate skin and that leads to wrinkles, rough patches, dark spots, fine lines, and premature aging. Sunscreen not only protects against skin cancer, but wrinkles and sunspots, too. Seriously, why wouldn't you use it?

5. Start using retinol

If you're 20 or younger, you may not need retinol quite yet. However, for those in their mid-20's and over it's time to embrace this key ingredient.

Retinol is basically the skin's best friend. She brightens skin, sweeps away dead skin cells, reduces acne, boosts collagen production, and functions like an antioxidant to fight damaging free radicals.

Retinol is an intense product, so you need to be careful especially those with sensitive skin. Fortunately, we use bakuchiol! It's a natural skincare ingredient that's being compared to retinol. It's great for all skin types and has already been used for years to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. It can even calm redness, swelling and itching, resulting in calmer and more soothed skin. Amazing right?

6. Save time with sleeping masks

2022 should be your year of no excuses. Did you know that there are overnight face masks that are designed to promote glowing, beautiful skin while you sleep?

Masks like Pure Fiji's Dilo and Coconut Hydrating Masque delivers a powerful hydration boost to your skin using high performance, plant derived naturals - rich in dilo oil and Ngi grass, which will rejuvenate skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. The skin is deeply nourished and repaired, hydration of the epidermis is significantly improved, which results in firmer, more hydrated skin.

7. Treat yourself to a facial

If you're not quite ready to go to the spa you can treat yourself to a spa-quality facial at home.

Facials are one of the most relaxing and luxurious things that you can do for yourself. Right now, many of us need to take care of ourselves and destress maybe more than ever before, but it's still not possible for everyone to book an appointment with your favorite esthetician for a professional facial.

8. Eat more of the right foods

Eating healthy foods in general will set you on a path for healthy, glowing skin. Add these foods to your grocery list next time you go shopping. Foods that provide you with skin-nourishing nutrients are:

  • Carrots
  • Spinach
  • Berries
  • Beans, peas and lentils
  • Salmon
  • Nuts

9. Check expiry dates

Look at all your cosmetics and throw away anything past its expiration date. If you can't find one, look for a symbol with an open jar and a letter m to indicate how long your product will last after opening. For example, 12m means your product is good for 12 months after you first open it. If you absolutely cannot find an expiry date most skincare (face or body) expires 12 months after opening.

10. Take advice from your licensed estheticians

Avoid random Instagram influencers unless they are truly experts in their field. There are plenty of licensed estheticians on social media that are more than happy to share their skincare tips.

11. Exfoliate regularly, but do it right

Getting rid of those dull, dead skin cells can help lighten dark marks, unclog pores, and give your skin a more youthful look.

Unfortunately, many skin care products include exfoliating properties which can lead to over exfoliation redness, inflammation, and hyperpigmentation, especially among women of color.

There are many ways to effectively break down the top layer of our skin, but which one is best for you? Should you use physical, mechanical, or chemical exfoliation? Find out here.

12. Be careful with DIY

Not all DIY skin care is safe. All natural is not always safe either.

Homemade products don't have preservatives in them, so bacteria can easily develop and lead to breakouts. Masks made of raw ingredients, like eggs, can contain harmful bacteria (read: salmonella). Unpolished scrubs can create microscopic cuts in the skin, leading to more bacteria entering it.

Bottom line: experimenting like a scientist on your very delicate facial skin should be avoided.

13. For the last time, stop sleeping with your makeup on

Makeup locks dirt, oil, and environmental pollutants into your pores. Not only will you break out more but it can also lead to a reduction in collagen production and therefore premature aging. Yikes.

14. Leave facial wipes in 2021

You may love the convenience of facial wipes but with all that rubbing and scrubbing to get your makeup off, you are basically creating wrinkles and fine lines on your own face. Instead use Pure Fiji's Coconut Cleansing Balm. This unique cleansing balm-to-milk melts away all traces of face makeup, eye makeup and impurities without drying your skin! It's a waterless natural gel concentrate with the cleansing of power Quillaja Saponaria, a natural soap extract combined with the vitamin-rich purifying powers of Coconut, Dilo, and Moringa oils to leave your skin feeling soft, fresh, and nourished.

15. Drink more water

You knew it was coming, and here it is: You gotta drink more water. According to the Mayo Clinic, the average woman should drink about 11. 5 cups per day.

If you dislike drinking plain water here are three tips to make it more enjoyable:

  • Add a squeeze of lemon and crushed ice
  • Add cucumber, strawberries or watermelon
  • Find a bottle or special cup you enjoy using, especially one that keeps water ice-cold.

For your detox water, focus on the fruits and vegetables with the most skin-enhancing ingredients.
